04 Oct Portugal Road Trip: Exploring the Fortified Town of Óbidos
Óbidos is a compact, fortified (walled) medieval town that features Gothic, Rennasiance, and Baroque styles.
Exploring Óbidos, Portugal
Duration: a few hours
Time of Year: late September
What did we find notable?
You can explore its cobblestone streets, historic castle and fortress walls that you can walk along.
Óbidos has plenty of yummy chocolate shops. We tried some chocolates with their famous cherry liqueur as well as bought some cherry jam. nom nom nom.
Our takeaways:
It is a perfect day trip from Sintra or Lisbon. But it could be really unique to spend a night here – you can even stay in the castle which has been converted into a pousada (an inn).
So you’re interested in going to Obidos… here are some helpful planning tips
– You can park in lots right outside the entrance to the walled city
– Wear sensible shoes with grip – the cobblestone is uneven and slippery. I had to go back to the car to change out of my Vans and into running shoes because I was sliding too much on the stone.
